               The Sephardi Federation in Israel

1 .     The Sephardi Federation in Israel is the umbrella organization of all the organizations of communities originating from Asia-Africa and the Balkan countries. The World Sephardi Federation is involved with all the above organizations in coordination with the Federation in Israel and is a full partner in the cultural and educational activities of the Sephardi Federation in Israel. This year, the Department and the Federation in Israel began to prepare the World Sephardi Congress in which representatives of all the Sephardi communities throughout the world will participate together with representatives from Israel.

2.     The World Sephardi Federation, together with the Israeli branch, supports a joint fund for the encouragement of Sephardi authors as well as for various cultural programs of Sephardi organizations in Israel.  The budget for this fund is US $ 20,000 and the World federation contributes 50% of this amount. This joint budget allows for a better response to requests, while preventing duplications of support and subsidies.

3.     Together with its Israeli branch, the World Sephardi Federation organized, in 2001, Shabbatot and day-seminars on social and educational problems in Israel. These were conducted by the branch of the Federation in Israel and by the various Sephardi organizations. The Shabbat seminars of tile Union of Moroccan Jews, Beit Koresh aud the committees of Jerusalem and Haifa attracted hundreds of participants in 2000.
